It's your moment to compete in San Diego's #1 triathlon! The fourth annual San Diego Triathlon Classic will take place on September 8, 2012. The San Diego Triathlon Classic features San Diego’s only true Olympic Distance Race consisting of a 1500m flat-water protected swim, a 40k hilly bike course, and a 10k flat run. Participants will have the opportunity to swim in the NTC boat canal, a flat and protected portion of beautiful San Diego Bay. Next, they will race their bikes from Liberty Station through the Naval Submarine Base at Point Loma, and up to Cabrillo National Park where breathtaking views of Mexico, downtown San Diego, and the rugged mountains to the east await. The San Diego Triathlon Classic provides riders the rare opportunity to ride through the Naval Base at Point Loma, situated on San Diego Bay across the water from the City Center. The run course takes participants throughout San Diego’s newest Parks and Rec addition, NTC Park at Liberty Station, a historic and culturally vibrant area of central San Diego.

The San Diego Triathlon Classic boasts the most spectator friendly transition and course areas in all of Southern California. A unique multi-loop course allows spectators, families, and friends to see participants multiple times during the course of the event, as well as at the finish line. In addition to the beautiful views of the downtown skyline and San Diego Bay, there are restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, a children’s playground, additional park space, and additional shopping opportunities within walking distance of the start/finish area.

Event Start Location
2600 Farragut Rd
San Diego, CA 92106

Course Description
SWIM: The swim is a 1500 meter rectangular course in calm San Diego Bay. Water temps are generally in the high 60s so wetsuits are recommended. Entry and exit to the water is adjacent to the transition area and will be accomplished through the use of stairs with volunteers standing by to assist.

BIKE: The bike course is a very challenging and hilly 40 km route. Racers will have the rare opportunity to ride through the Naval Base at Pt. Loma before ascending McLelland Dr. to Cabrillo National Monument. A left turn at the top of the hill will take riders to the lighthouse turn-around where sweeping views of the San Diego skyline and Mexico to the south await them. After a quick ride on the up and down rollers of Catalina Ave. the racers will be descending down Canon St. Racers will repeat the portion of the course that runs through the base and Cabrillo before returning to Liberty Station via Scott St. and Harbor Drive.

RUN: The run course will consist of two 5km laps within NTC Park at Liberty Station. Runners will go around a landlocked Naval Ship, the USS Recruit, run alongside the water canal, and next to beautiful Ingram Plaza before finishing near the transition area.
