This inaugural event is a half-iron distance triathlon, the first in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and will take place on Aug 15, 2010. It will include an 1.2mile in-land lake swim, a hilly and beautiful 56-mile bike course, and Lake Superior shore half marathon.

Event Start Location
Lac La Belle, Michigan; about thirty miles north of Calumet.
Course Description
One-lap swim in Lac La Belle (in water start). Bike course makes a single clock-wise loop in the Keweenaw, starting south on Lac La Belle Road to Gay, turn right toward Mohawk, then right again on North US41. Right on Lac La Belle Road back to Lac La Belle and back to transition. Run will follow paved road, two-track, and beachfront.
Awards
Age group and overall awards will include locally made pottery, art, fresh-roasted coffee from Peace Coffee, and more! All finishers will receive a finishers award and a bamboo-organic cotton t-shirt with artwork designed by Betsy Bowen (Grand Marais, MN).
Packet Pickup / Expo
Packet Pickup will be held on Saturday (time TBD) at the Best Western- Franklin Square Inn in downtown Houghton. For directions to packet-pickup: http://www.houghtonlodging.com/directions.html
Additionally, the Best Western Franklin Square Inn will be offering a discounted rate for Kuparisaari Tri athletes for race weekend. The Best Western is located approximately 40min south of the race start location.
Timing / Results
J-Chip timing will be supplied by Superior Timing of Marquette, Michigan, with immediate, rolling results posted at race site. Online results will be made available after all finishers complete the event.
Post Race Activities
Plenty of food, including pasties and locally-made birch beer from the Keweenaw Brewing Company. Award ceremony promptly following event.
Weather
The UP has great weather in August. Typically, it's 75 degrees, sunny, low wind.
Directions
From Houghton/Hancock, head north on US41 to Lac La Belle Road (about 10miles south of Copper Harbor).
Parking
Race-day parking will be available at the Mt Bohemia lot on Lac La Belle Road in Lac La Belle.
