I moved to Mammoth in 1984. Ran Cross country at University of Miami (Florida). I NEVER quit/stopped a race. At mile 7 of TPR, it was snowing and and I could not continue...It was the first time I did't finish a race. In 2003, I ran again, and eventually became the the race director. My 4-year-old daughter (who is now a sophmore at Michigan State) helped set the mile markers at 4 am...many memories of TPR.

I'm a newby. I've done many races (more than 80 marathons + ultras) and this is the first time I've climbed up a 12+ mile hill at any altitude! Excellant course, great volunteers and support, and good after-race event.

This is a great and beautiful race; but it took place on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and I spent the first few miles seething with astonshment that, at the start, none of the race organizers said a word of rememberance or reflection about that terrible day; it seemed a perfect time for those sentiments; sorry for being a crank, but I guess honoring our country is just a little too corny for the sanctimonious Mono Lake Committee.
