Radcliffe to Run New York City Marathon
Triple champion Paula Radcliffe will defend her New York City Marathon title on November 1.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - "I am really excited to be returning to New York this year," the world record holder said in a statement issued by the organizers on Thursday. Radcliffe, 35, sidelined with a foot injury earlier this year, is returning to the distance after withdrawing from the marathon at the Berlin world championships in August due to lack of preparation. Last year the Briton followed up her victories in 2007 and 2004 by beating Kenyan Susan Chepkemei by three seconds in New York's closest women's finish. (continued)

Double Amputee to Compete in Ironman Triathlon
Six months ago, Jason Gunter had run only up to eight miles, didn’t own a bike and had never taken a swimming lesson. Today, the 44-year-old Fort Myers attorney is headed to Hawaii to compete in the world’s most celebrated triathlon, the Ford Ironman World Championship. On Oct. 10, he intends to finish the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2 mile run. Gunter, who lost his right hand and left leg below the knee in a 1992 boating accident, has a shot at history. Ultra-Marathon Runners Determined To Go Distance
47th Annual JFK 50 Miler
When is 26.2 miles not enough? Well, there are marathons and then there are "ultra" marathons (races more than 26.2). Washington County, MD is host of one of the most popular ultras in the country -the JFK 50 Miler that runs from Boonsboro to Williamsport in western Maryland. According to UltraRunning Magazine, there has been a big expansion in North American ultras in the past few years and a 20 percent increase in finishers from 2007 to 2008. This year's JFL goes off at 7 a.m. on Nov. 21st with a sold-out field of 1,000. (continued)
